Please join us as Dr. Robyn Underwood presents the history of spotted lanternflies in the US.  She will elaborate on the story of her involvement in studying their interactions with honey bees and will present data about the medicinal properties of the honey that is made from SLF honeydew.

We will be able to sample and purchase, if desired some honey made from spotted lanternfly honeydew.

Dr. Robyn Underwood is the Apiculture Extension Educator for PA and is based in the Lehigh County Extension Office. She has been learning about bees since her days as an undergraduate at the University of Delaware more than 25 years ago. For her PhD, she studied the use of formic acid for controlling varroa mites in colonies that were kept indoors for the winter in Manitoba, Canada. Since returning to PA in 2005, she has kept bees in various parts of the state and has been conducting research on the impacts of a beekeeper’s management system on honey bee colony health, differences between queen lines, impacts of various feeds on overwintering survival, the effects of humidity on formic acid fumigation, and more. Robyn is passionate about beekeeping and considers herself to be a lifelong learner, constantly seeking knowledge about the colony’s inner workings.

This is our annual meeting.  All officers will be elected at the Annual Meeting of the membership. The nominating committee will present a slate of Officers and Board Members to the General Membership to vote on. In the event candidates for an office present themselves at the meeting, the nominee receiving the most votes will be elected to that office.

This meeting is free and open to the public.

Please note that our meeting is in person and our speaker will be here live.  Our presentation will begin at 7:30 but please join us by 7:00 to allow time for visiting with like-minded individuals.

The location is Norfield Congregational Church located at 64 Norfield Rd in Weston, CT. Even though the event is free and open to the public, please register at https://backyardbeekeepers.com.

If you are unable to join us, club members will be able to view this and past monthly meeting recordings in the Members Only portion of the website under BYBA Presentations.
