Roger Patterson - What is going wrong with our queens?

I first detected unexplained problems with queens about the turn of the century, these mainly being young queens failing, young queens being superseded and queens disappearing. These occur regularly, not only in the UK, but abroad too. Some examples will be discussed and ways of managing bees to overcome problems. It is important for newer beekeepers to understand these problems are unnatural and not their fault.

About the Speaker

I started beekeeping in 1963 and got to 130 colonies at one stage. I am a practical and observant beekeeper, learning more from the bees than books and videos. I am currently Life President and Apiary Manager of the Wisborough Green BKA, Vice-President of Bee Diseases Insurance Ltd and President of Bee Improvement and Bee Breeders Association. I did a full term as Trustee of British Beekeepers Association.

I am a prolific speaker, demonstrator and writer (articles and 5 books, 4 of which were published in 2021). I own and manage Dave Cushman’s website.
