A club for the Hobbyist Beekeeper, based in Southwestern Connecticut
The June New Bees & Special Topics meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at 6:30pm.
Please find session descriptions below. Zoom session information will be sent in registration confirmation email. NewBee Fundamentals This is boom time for bees! We’ll talk about swarming, mite monitoring, and how our “typical” weather follows patterns influence nectar flow / dearth. In a show of optimism, we’ll also touch on preparing for a honey crop. We’ll make lots of time for Q & A this month, because no doubt a lot of things are going on in your hives! Special Topics
The month of June on the beekeeper’s calendar is a busy time for most colonies, so it’s important to continue your hive checks on a weekly basis. Identify the queen, check the overall health of the hive and add honey supers as needed.
If you intend to pull honey from the hives this season, June is a good time to check on the tools needed. We will talk about extracting options.
Because the Varroa mite population continues to build, we will review this also.
