NewBee Fundamentals

The season is swinging into high gear, the bees are installed and colonies are building quickly.  We’ll review the colony’s typical growth path through the first 6-8 weeks, both in population numbers and broodnest size.  We’ll also review how to gauge the colony’s health and review the various techniques for monitoring varroa mite levels.

Special Topics

May is a busy month with many sources of nectar and pollen. It's also the beginning of swarm season. This month we will discuss how to detect the first signs of a colony's intention to swarm and some interventions to help manage swarms. Early May is an excellent time to evaluate incoming nectar and super your colonies for honey production. Join us for a lively discussion of these special topics and more, including making splits and what's blooming in your area.
