NewBee Fundamentals

Some folks are still waiting for their bees to arrive, and some are working through their first few inspections.  The discussion will focus on those first visits, what to look for to be sure that all is well - or isn’t - and what to do next, in either case.

Special Topics

April on the beekeeper's calendar means spring is finally here. Daytime temps reach the upper 50s, and your colonies are continuing to build their population and bring in new pollen and nectar.

This month, we will discuss how to evaluate your queen's health and evaluate the brood's health. Knowing a colony's varroa count is critical during April because their populations grow exponentially with brood expansion. We will offer techniques for measuring varroa and steps you can take to begin control. Join us for a lively discussion of these special topics and more, including an early look at candidate colonies to split and what's blooming in your area.
