NewBee Fundamentals

For overwintering colonies, the next few weeks are crucial, as cold weather continues and brood-rearing ramps up.  We'll talk about deep winter measures that might help the colony though this time, and other winter pastimes for the beekeeper.
Soon-to-be beekeepers are invited to ask questions about their equipment choices, assembly, etc., and anything else that's on their minds as they continue preparing for the arrival of their first bees.

Special Topics

It may come as a surprise, but in colonies with live queens, those queens are busy laying eggs to build up brood for the coming year. We will discuss how this occurs and the effect that brood has on winter stores. The goal at this point is to keep your colony alive until Spring - and we can help you get there.

Also, to learn more about winter brood cycles read what Llyod Harris has to say about Winter Colony Development in his great 2017 Bee Culture article. Hope to see you all there.
