A club for the Hobbyist Beekeeper, based in Southwestern Connecticut
The December New Bees & Special Topics meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 6:30pm.
Please find session descriptions below. Zoom session information will be sent in registration confirmation email. NewBee Fundamentals After a busy - and challenging, in so many ways - season, the winter affords a bit of time to rest and regroup. We'll discuss the past season's highs and lows, and talk about how to spend some bee time in winter getting ready for next year. Reviewing notes, and making plans, and preparing equipment are all in the mix. Special Topics The winter cluster has some interesting behaviors that are worth considering and this month we will discuss the role of moisture in winter survival. It's an interesting subject and has practical applications. Also, beekeepers have been reporting a more than normal amount of colonies with bees that have just disappeared. Normally we would consider that they absconded, but that might not be the case this year. So join us, and share your stories and we will offer some thoughts on the disappearing bees of 2020.
